COVID HGI
The COVID-19 Host Genomics Initiative was created to find differences in people's DNA that are associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe disease. By analyzing sequencing data from 125,500 people with COVID-19 and 2.5 million controls across 25 countries, the team was able to identify 7 locations in the human genome that are associated with an increased risk of COVID-19 infection and 16 that are associated with disease severity. We created the lotus map to show the numbers of participants categorized by infected, hospitalized, or critically ill, and to show where they were located. We also designed a figure for their publication in Nature.
